Bill McCollum is the 36th Attorney General of Florida, elected in November 2006. Since taking office, he has positioned Florida as a national leader in the fight against child pornography and internet child predators. At his request, the Florida Legislature provided the resources to greatly expand the Attorney General’s Child Predator CyberCrime Unit (CPCU) and passed laws giving law enforcement new tools and greater punishments for those who prey on children over the internet. Additionally, with the cooperation of the state’s school superintendents, the Attorney General’s office has prepared a cybersafety program to present in all of Florida’s middle schools and high schools.
As Attorney General, Bill’s other priorities include developing a statewide strategy to address gangs, violent crime and drugs; consumer protection; combating Medicaid fraud; improving the state’s security against terrorist threats, and fighting crimes against the elderly, especially identity theft.
Bill McCollum is a native Floridian, born in Brooksville. He graduated from Hernando High School and earned his bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Florida.
After graduating from law school, Bill served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1972. In 1992, he retired from the Naval Reserve as a Commander, having served 23 years as an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG).
From 1981 to 2001, Bill represented the people of Central Florida in the United States Congress. He founded the U.S. House Task force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare and was recognized as an expert on terrorism. Bill also served on the Judiciary Committee, where he chaired the Subcommittee on Crime, as well as the Intelligence and Banking committees. Upon retiring from the House of Representatives in 2001, he was a partner with Baker and Hostetler, LLP, until he was elected as the Attorney General.
Bill has been married to Ingrid Seebohm McCollum for 36 years. They have three sons, a daughter-in-law and two grandsons. |

Eric Smith began his career in Florida more than 30 years ago as a classroom teacher. His commitment to affecting positive change in the field of education led him to several administrative positions in Florida school districts and eventually to 16 years of serving as a district superintendent in Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland. His goals have remained constant throughout his career: to increase academic achievement of all students and to reduce the disparity in achievement among student subgroups. His success in consistently meeting these goals in individual districts bears testimony to his own passion to change students’ lives, the urgency he brings to the challenges involved, and the leadership he demonstrates in ensuring the involvement of all stakeholders.
Central to his work, beginning at Winter Park High School in 1982 and continuing in each district thereafter, has been the expansion of Advanced Placement programs and the International Baccalaureate. His leadership in each district led to significant gains in academic achievement, increased enrollment in rigorous coursework and advanced studies, improved reading and math scores among elementary students, and meaningful progress toward lessening the achievement gap among minority student populations. He also created meaningful working relationships with members of the diverse communities he served, the business community, the faith community, and the district’s elected officials to cultivate a shared commitment to education of the highest quality.
Eric’s most recent work was with the College Board, where he served as Senior Vice President for College Readiness and was responsible for leading the EXCELerator project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and based on a mission of preparing all students for college. The project is now being implemented in five school districts across the country, including Duval and Hillsborough in Florida, and impacts nearly 45,000 young people.
Eric is past Chairman of the Board of Trustees for The College Board, as well as a member on the Board of Directors for the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program; he also has served as Chair of the National Assessment of Title 1 Independent Review Panel since 2003. He received his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University and his master’s degree in school administration from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He earned his doctorate of curriculum and instruction from the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Charles H. Bronson, a fifth-generation Floridian, serves as Florida's 10th Agriculture Commissioner. Managing the largest state Department of Agriculture in the country with more than 3,700 employees, Bronson’s priorities include overseeing the state's vast agriculture industry and helping promote its products, safeguarding the state's food supply, protecting consumers from unfair and deceptive trade practices, and managing about one million acres of state forests.
Initially appointed to the position in May 2001 to fill the unexpired term of the outgoing Commissioner, Bronson was elected to the post in a statewide election in November 2002, and re-elected in November 2006. In addition to heading Florida's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Bronson serves on the Florida Cabinet - a body that includes Florida's three statewide elected officials, as well as the Governor, and oversees state land-buying programs, clemency issues and directs the operations of several state agencies. Bronson is a former member of the Governor's Council on Efficient Government and is a past President of the Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture.
Born into a ranching family in Kissimmee in 1949, Bronson comes from a family that traces its long agricultural roots to 1635 as each generation of the family has been in farming since that date. The Commissioner attended Osceola County public schools and received a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural education, as well as animal and meat sciences, from the University of Georgia in 1972. He worked in the fertilizer, chemical and sod business and ultimately managed the family's cattle business in Central Florida. A certified law enforcement officer, Bronson served as a reserve deputy in both Miami-Dade and Brevard counties. He was elected to the Florida Senate in 1994, representing a district that encompassed both Brevard and Osceola counties, and reelected in 1998. He served as chairman of both counties' legislative delegations, and chairman of the Florida Senate's Agriculture and Consumer Services Committee and its Natural Resources Committee.
He has received numerous honors and awards including an FFA Honorary National Degree for outstanding personal commitment, a Nature Conservancy Legislative Leadership Appreciation Award, a Florida Farm Bureau Legislative Award, and both Florida Sheriff's and Florida Police Chief Association's Legislative Awards.
Bronson resides in Tallahassee with his wife, Regina. |
